This paper examines the shift towards the “Games as a Service” (GaaS) model in the video gaming industry, particularly in the context of India’s rapidly growing market. It explores critical issues related to game ownership, consumer rights, and the impact of licensing versus ownership. The paper discusses the implications of GaaS, such as limited control over purchased content, the enforcement of restrictive End User Licence Agreements (EULAs), and the legal uncertainties surrounding the classification of games as goods or services. To address these challenges, the paper calls for a clear legal framework, robust consumer protection laws, and increased public awareness to safeguard gamers’ rights.

Through this blog, we have highlighted the shortcomings of the current legal framework used to tackle deepfakes. Furthermore, we have examined how existing regulations can be adapted to address the threat posed by malicious deepfakes effectively and considered how foreign legislation can be integrated into the Indian context.
